Wooden Nickel Band
Wooden Nickel is a four-piece acoustic/electric musical group based in Millerton, NY. Together as Wooden Nickel since 2007, their repertoire consists of an eclectic mix of folk, traditional, obscure covers and original music. The members of the group consist of Chris Shamkin on guitar and vocals, Lance Middlebrook on guitar, mandolin and vocals, John Mathews on bass guitar and vocals and Ken Hafford on percussion.
The band’s unique sound is characterized by three part vocal harmonies and original tunes, written by Shamkin and Middlebrook, whose styles differ considerably but complement each other. Add the rhythmic instrumentation of Chris’ flowing guitar style, Lance’s melodic mandolin, John’s driving bass and Ken’s steady percussion and a very diverse musical experience is created.
The band performs for clubs, festivals, coffee shops and private functions. Wooden Nickel shows its versatility, whether performing totally organic with no amplification at all or gathered around a single microphone, moving in and out to control the dynamics of their vocals and instruments. When the venue dictates, they are fully wired for a complete amplified acoustic sound.
